Hidey-ho there, listeners! I’m coming off a really busy and soul-crushing week, so please bear with me as I catch up to Facebook messages and emails and editing! I’m finally able to bring you this awesome and overwhelming episode of The Leftovers, which I’m sure many of you have been eagerly anticipating because it is probably one of the more bananas episodes of one of the most bananas television shows I have ever seen.
This episode I fully expected Kevin to return to the Other Side, wherever that is, but I was pretty much thinking that he would end up in the hotel room where we’d seen him the previous two times. Instead, this episode he is in a totally different place…actually, he’s in two totally different places, because he’s in two bodies at the same time. One of them is the President of the United States (a nation that has been apparently taken over by the GR), and the other is his old identity as an international assassin. And he’s being assigned to assassinate…himself. Or as he’s being called in this, his “identical twin brother”.
There are so many layers to this, and it’s the kind of thing that honestly warrants more than a two-hour podcast in a lot of ways, but we’re going to do our best because there is a lot to cover here. Basically, Kevin is struggling with the same issues that everyone else has been, which is that he kind of doesn’t want to be alive anymore and this Other Place has become a kind of escape for him. But now he has to start to face that fact that all he’s ever tried to do is escape, and maybe that’s why his life is in the state it’s in.
This episode is really intense, and I’m super interested to hear what you all have to say about it. Thanks again for listening, and I will see you next week with the finale episode!
